This historic Dallas locale is characterized by quaint Tudor cottages, lovely craftsman bungalows, and gracious prairie style homes. Just a short distance from the hip nightlife of Greenville Avenue, the iconic landmark Granada Theater, and dozens of shops and restaurants, the “M” Streets resident truly has it all! It’s no wonder why the “M” streets is one of the most sought-after & popular neighborhoods in Dallas! The name “M Streets” actually comes from the names of the streets in the area, that all begin with the letter M. The neighborhood’s boundaries are from Central Expressway to Skillman, McCommas Avenue to the north and Vanderbilt to the south.
The “M” Streets was originally named Greenland Hills when the land was developed as a planned community in the 1920s. In fact, Greenland Hills is still the official and correct name of this neighborhood and the “M” streets is simply a nickname. The street McCommas Avenue was along Dallas’ northernmost boundary when Frank and Fletcher McNeny bought the land back in 1926. Built on rolling hills, the neighborhood incorporated strict architectural guidelines. The McNenys built streets and sewers, and then parceled out the land to builders. Despite the ongoing Great Depression, the houses proved popular with young professionals who could not afford the more opulent homes in Highland Park and Munger Place, developed a few years earlier. It’s also important to note that the area is actually comprised of two Conservation Districts. This encourages preservation and reconstruction which is sensitive to this original architectural style. (Greenland Hills Conservation District and M-Streets East Conservation District).
With all this history, character, and charm the “M” Streets may be where you find your next dream home!!!
